Jason Duval is one of the two playable protagonists of Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar describes him as someone who wants an easy life, drawn into the drug trade in the Florida Keys-inspired islands south of Vice City. He is the male lead of a story Rockstar has repeatedly framed as a modern spin on the Bonnie-and-Clyde crime-couple archetype, chasing money and a way out rather than power for its own sake.
Rockstar's official bio fills in his backstory: Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, then did a stint in the Army trying to shake off a troubled adolescence. That didn't stick either, and he ended up back in the Keys working for local drug runners, the same kind of hustle he'd tried to leave behind. Editorial coverage from ESPN has noted that this background gives Jason a very different starting point from most GTA protagonists, who are usually already deep in the criminal world rather than trying, and failing, to escape it.
Role in the story
His path crosses with Lucia not long after she's released from Leonida Penitentiary, and Rockstar frames that meeting as a turning point Jason can't fully read yet: it could be the best thing that ever happens to him, or the thing that finally sinks him. When an easy score the pair attempt goes wrong, they're pulled into a criminal conspiracy that reaches across the whole state of Leonida, sending them from the Keys up into Vice City proper.
Jason is close with Cal Hampton, a friend who stayed behind in the Keys rather than chase bigger ambitions, a contrast Rockstar has used to sketch out the two men's different appetites for risk. Where Cal is content watching the world from his porch, Jason is the one willing to gamble everything on a bigger score.

Trailer 2 (May 2025) expands on that footage with more direct looks at bank robberies, shootouts, and the couple's relationship, and PC Gamer's character rundown has tracked how each new trailer adds detail to his role opposite Lucia. Fan speculation about his voice actor has circulated widely, including a Dexerto report naming a suspected performer — this remains unconfirmed by Rockstar and should be treated as speculation, not fact.
